The Zone Pietonne, or Rue Massena, is going to be redone! The vote passed today after public consultation. The public asked for more trees and flowers, and better arrangement and restrictions on terrace sizes. Pedestrianised back in 1976, next year architects will be working on the plans to revitalise the street and take it to the next level. Works will start end of 2027.
Finally Avenue Suede and Rue Maccarani are going to be completely redone. Of course they will put in trees and flowers, and improve the pedestrian experience. Works start next month in November and should be finished around the start of the new year.

And you thought public transport in Nice could not get any better. From 1st July all public transport will be free for children under 11 years old. It remains free for those over 65 years old.
The new Nice tram line starts work and will go west, linking Nice to Cagnes sur Mer via St Laurent du Var. The first set of stops will be operational in 2028 and works will be completed in 2030.
The Figaro has published it's property price report, and Nice is up 4% as I expected. It is pretty uniform across the different areas if you exclude new builds, with the Carre d'Or up 4%, a one bedroom there now averages €7,670/sqm, and the Port and Old Town up 3% at around €6,300/sqm.
Electricity prices set to drop tomorrow. The government has set new tariffs which will see an average of a 15% decrease in energy bills for 70% of households in France. Great news for homeowners here.
The mayor bans cruise ships from Nice! Starting from 1st July cruise ships will no longer be allowed anywhere Mr Estrosi has juristiction, which include the Port of Nice and the Bay of Villefranche. He claims the ships pollute the sea and the "low cost" tourists add little to the city except the rubbish they leave behind.
Earthquake hits Nice! Apparently an earthquake, one of the strongest in memory measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale, hit Nice with the epicentre just off the coast between Nice and Monaco. It occurred Monday night around 10.30pm.
