The new Loi Alur has capped the price of rental fees for estate agents. Until now the standard fee was one months rent as commission, ie renting out a €700/month apartment the estate agency would charge a one-off €700 commission for arranging the contract.
Starting from the 15th September, the price is capped at €13/m². So a 50m² apartment rented out at €700/month will now be capped at a one-off €715 payment. Of course some owners will be winners and some losers under the new system. This is just one of a long list of pointless and complicated changes made by the Hollande government.
